22. Goodin Country Garden

The garden has been developed over the last 25 years & created around the family farmhouse built on an old riverbed. The garden is nestled amongst large trees & includes spacious lawns, roses, rhododendrons & many other plants of colour & interest. Daughter Nicci is a prominent New Plymouth florist & much of the planting is with her creativity in mind.

23. The van der Poel Garden
92 Ruakere Rd, Warea

A new developing garden of the old style using trees from a former garden as key components. Spacious lawns, including interesting under planting of mature trees. Dublin Bay roses also feature as well as formal planting around the house. A tranquil setting to stop & enjoy your picnic.

24. Woodleigh

Stroll through this garden paradise & experience different theme gardens while enjoying the subtle changes from deciduous northern hemisphere plants to more exotic sub-tropical plantings near the pond.
Many rare trees & shrubs can be found in this treasure trove garden. Along the way you will see plants you’ve never seen before, such as the Tortoiseshell Bamboo with fascinating twisty stems & the rare Canton Water Pine, & the Mexican Magnolia with leaves as big as a Mexican hat.
You can enjoy the bird song as the garden has become a haven for native & exotic birds including Bellbirds, Tui, Pigeons & rare Grey Ducks. The large pond where they live is a major feature of the garden.
The garden includes many rhododendrons & magnolias & has the best collection of hydrangeas in New Zealand.

25. Pukeiti

The jewel in the crown, Pukeiti is New Zealand’s premier rhododendron garden set in magnificent rainforest on the lower slopes of Mount Taranaki.
Enjoy more than 10,000 rhododendrons & azaleas in a unique setting of lush native bush full of ferns, mountain streams & alive with birds. Drifts of primulas, hostas, bluebells & the world renowned vireya collection are just part of the scene which provides all year interest.
During the festival you will find a special flower display in the Gatehouse, with over 100 different blooms that are labeled & refreshed daily. The Conservatory & Beverly McConnell Covered Walk house an extensive collection of vireyas & other decorative plants. A recent addition is the children’s garden planted by the Pukeiti Explorer Club.
Guided walks daily at 11am & 1.30pm. Café & souvenirs available. Mobility scooters, buggys available (weather & availability dependent). Specialized guided walks available by prior arrangement.
